Ombudsman appears with criminal justice inspectorates before Justice Committee

On 5 July 2016, the Justice Committee held a one-off evidence session on Criminal justice inspectorates and the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman.Giving evidence to the Committee were:

  • Peter Clarke, HM Chief Inspector of Prisons
  • Dame Glenys Stacey, HM Chief Inspector of Probation
  • Kevin McGinty, HM Chief Inspector of the Crown Prosecution Service
  • Nigel Newcomen, Prisons and Probation Ombudsman

In its Criminal justice inspectorates Report (PDF 199 KB), the Committee said that it intended to hold an annual evidence session with the three criminal justice inspectorates which come within its remit, and with the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman.

This is the first of these proposed sessions. They are intended to enable the Committee to discuss collectively with the Inspectors and the Ombudsman the work of their organisations, and their governance and relationships with their sponsoring Ministers.
