The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman (PPO) has a dedicated learning and research team. This specialist team uses findings from individual investigations to highlight broader issues and to identify learnings that would benefit the services involved.
The team works by analysing investigation data and reviewing the PPO’s findings and recommendations. We then regularly share learning to help prevent avoidable deaths or further complaints in the future. We also publish a number of documents, including learning lessons bulletins, and policy into practice publications.
These publications offer insights and information for stakeholders and services, including policy teams and frontline staff.
Learning and research publications
The PPO publishes a range of documents, from reports that explore thematic issues to periodic research bulletins.
