PPO special investigation at Yarl’s Wood Immigration Removal Centre concludes

In June 2023, we announced that the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman (PPO) were conducting a special investigation into the disturbance which occurred at Yarl’s Wood Immigration Removal Centre on 28-29 April 2023 at the request of the Director General of Immigration Enforcement at the Home Office.
We were asked to investigate and report on the decisions, actions and circumstances surrounding the disturbance and subsequent escapes.
Our investigation has now concluded and our final report was shared with the Home Office in October 2023.
